One of the simple new things in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 that experienced users (especially administrators) of SharePoint get excited about is multi-level recycle bins. Simply put, users have their own recycle bin where their deleted content goes, and site collection administrators have a higher-level recycle bin where content deleted from users’ recycle bins goes.

Joel Oleson’s recent post on these multi-level recycling bins, why they were created, how they were designed to be used, and how they are used (and mis-used) in practice made for an interesting read. Expect to see more posts in this vein (why it was designed a certain way, and how it is being used in the real world) from various SharePoint bloggers as SharePoint deployments gain momentum through 2007–2008.
